SD-1.17 - Overdrive Apparatus

The Overdrive Unit has been designed to demonstrate the action of the
gear elements in simple epicyclic gear arrangements. The unit may also
be used by students in the laboratory to carry out simple experiments
on epicyclic gearing.

The apparatus illustrated has been designed specifically for Motor
Vehicle courses and represents an application of a simple epicyclic
arrangement of the type used in a motor vehicle overdrive.

Pulleys fitted with protractors are secured to the input and output
shafts to enable the student to determine and verify velocity and
torque ratios.
